Download Firefox 3! Not yet though…

Download Day 2008
Mozilla are trying to set a world record for the most downloads in a day, so you should all download and install Firefox, it’ll make the world a better place. It’s a new category and they’re hoping for 1.6 million downloads within 24 hours. I’ll be getting 37 myself.

I am cmbuild!

Yarrrrrgh!

Own up, who is it - apart from mine?

Dropbox

dropboxOodles of free storage, well 2gb, to store your files online - just by dragging to a local folder which then syncs. It does version control, which is cool, but the main feature is that you can then access your files from anywhere via the web interface. Files in the public folder can also be directly linked to, enabling them to be shared with anyone else with a browser to download or view them. I’ll come up with a more worthwhile review once I’ve used it a bit more… Sadly I’m out of invitations, so if you want an account you’ll have to sign up for a beta invitation from them and hope. Cross your fingers and whatnot. There will be free accounts when it comes out of the beta, so don’t fear you’re missing the train completely!

You’ll find the main site here, and the FAQ here. Rumour has it, you can also sign-up here, with the beta code of dropblog as shown at the bottom.

Gravatars

gravatarAfter a little theme modification, I am now gravatar-enabled. It’s one rollercoaster of fun here!

Valid XHTML: YouTube

In order to keep the XHTML monster happy and ensure my blog is compliant with the standards, I had to remove the standard embedding of a YouTube video and replace it with compliant code. Rather than enclosing it each time, I searched for a plugin and am now using WP YouTube 2. Once installed and activated, simply make a profile with a number of options, such as colours and borders. Then, selecting “Valid XHTML”, save the profile.

Profiles are then called by [profilename]video_string[/profilename] in the code view where the string is found from the URL, such as http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=f_3Utmj4RPU - the string is f_3Utmj4RPU.

I have tried to automatically send my videos to the right, but that was generating an extra <p> and </p> somewhere along the line, so I’m back to doing them manually for now…

I suppose I should take this opportunity to mention my first Swedish visitor and the creator of this plugin, Jens - found at http://www.jenst.se/

Icon-tastic!

icon

For those of you wanting to bookmark me on your iPhone or Touch, there’s now an icon to remember me by…

GMail on Nokia N73

…does work through the built in mail client using IMAP.

After changing over to Google Apps and hoping that the J2ME GMail client would work on the N73, I found that it didn’t and would only collect mail from a standard @gmail.com/@googlemail.com account. This is a serious drawback, sort it out Google! I considered bouncing all my e-mail across to another account, but thought better of it and gave emoze a try. Which didn’t seem to do much once I eventually connected…

So I’ve gone back to e-mail in the Messaging menu:

Incoming server: imap.googlemail.com

Mailbox type: IMAP4

Security: SSL/TLS

Port: 993

..and away you go. For sending e-mail using GMail;

Outgoing server: smtp.googlemail.com

Security: StartTLS

Port: 587

Once again, Google, please allow your client to deal with Google Apps accounts!

Although I’ve done this on my N73, it should be the same for all S60v3 phones such as the N95.

Spin Images rock!

Me, younger.

Apparently. Nearly finished method explanation part one. Still got a literature review to finish though.

That’s not a spin image, that’s me. Looking youthful. Just testing.

Themes

Can’t decide what theme to use, they all seem a bit the same… I’m typing this on a lower resolution monitor too, so I need to look at different screen sizes before I decide finally.
